Toy Fox Terrier: A Lively and Adorable Companion
The Toy Fox Terrier is a small breed that originated in the United States. They were bred to be companions, but also served as ratters on farms. The breed was developed by crossing Smooth Fox Terriers with various toy breeds such as Chihuahuas, Italian Greyhounds, and Miniature Pinschers. This created a playful, friendly dog with all of the tenacity of their terrier ancestors.
The Toy Fox Terrier is a tiny breed standing at just 8-11 inches tall and weighing between 3-7 pounds. Their coat is short and smooth, coming in several colors including white, black & tan or tricolor (white/black/tan). They have an expressive face with large round eyes that can range from dark brown to light blue. The ears are erect and triangular-shaped which adds to their charming appearance.
One word that comes to mind when describing this little terrier is spunky! They are full of life and energy making them great playmates for children who enjoy active games. Despite being lively dogs they make excellent lap warmers when it’s time to relax. Toy Fox Terriers are known for being loyal companions who will stick close by your side even during outdoor adventures like hiking trips or long walks around town.
Like many small breeds, the Toy Fox Terrier can be prone to luxating patella (knee dislocation), Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (a hip joint disorder), allergies or dental issues due to their small size mouths.. However most live long healthy lives up until age 13 years old if cared for properly.
Even though these dogs may appear delicate they still require daily exercise which can come in many forms depending on your own lifestyle such as walking or playing fetch outside . Because they have high energy levels you’ll want to make sure your dog gets plenty of play time each day to burn off excess energy and stay mentally stimulated.
Special Grooming Needs:
Fortunately, the Toy Fox Terrier has very low maintenance grooming requirements since they have short coats that do not shed heavily. It’s still recommended to brush them once per week for both health purposes as well as aesthetics.
These dogs are highly intelligent which makes them easier to train compared with other small breeds because they enjoy learning new tricks! Basic obedience training is essential for socialization and being a pleasant companion overall.
Compatibility with Children/Pets:
Toy Fox Terriers get along great with children when raised together from puppies; however, caution should always be taken around young children who may accidentally hurt these little guys. If you already own another dog or cat it’s best if introduced at a younger age so bonding occurs naturally without fighting later on in life due to dominance issues.
One personality quirk of this breed is their affectionate nature that will win over even the most skeptical person! They often like snuggling up close whether it’s on top of your lap while watching TV or tucked underneath a blanket at night.
Some famous owners include actor Samuel L. Jackson and actress Paula Abdul who currently owns six Toy Fox Terriers! In addition, there was a long-running animated series called “Courage The Cowardly Dog” where one of the main characters was also named Courage but was actually portrayed as an American Eskimo instead (a similar-looking breed).
