History of the Breed and Physical Appearance
The Schnauzer is a German breed that originated in the 15th century. Originally bred to catch rats, they were later used as herding dogs, guard dogs, and even war dogs due to their loyalty and bravery. There are three sizes of Schnauzers: miniature, standard, and giant. The Miniature Schnauzer is the most common with a height ranging from 12-14 inches (30-36 cm) and weight between 11-20 pounds (5-9 kg). Standard Schnauzers are slightly larger with a height of 17.5 -19.5 inches (44-50 cm) weighing between 30-45 pounds (14-20 kg). Giant schnauzers stand at approximately 23.5 -27 inches(60–70cm), weighing around100lb(45kg).
