Welsh Terrier Pictures and InformationWelsh Springer Spaniel DescriptionThe Welsh Springer Spaniel is a medium sized breed which has smooth coat. The coat will either be white or dark red in color. The coat will have a wavy texture, and these dogs have heads which are round in shape. The Welsh Springer Spaniel has a square shaped muzzle, and the eyes may be hazel or dark in color. While this breed is smaller than the English Springer Spaniel, they are bigger than the Cocker Spaniel. This is a very old breed that was first bred in Wales well over a thousand years ago. It was primarily bred to be a gun dog. These dogs have large amounts of endurance, and can work for many hours before they need to rest. TemperamentThe Welsh Springer Spaniel is a cheerful dog that is independent. It can be wary of strangers, and it should be properly trained so that it is not timid. These dogs can be protective, and should be included in family events. The Welsh Springer Spaniel should be trained to hunt while it is a puppy so that it can learn not to run off on its own when it becomes an adult. This breed loves being around children, and will behave well with other pets. Health ProblemsSome Welsh Springer Spaniels may develop hip dysplasia, and they are also subject to entropion or epilepsy. They have a maximum life expectancy of about 15 years. ExerciseThe Welsh Springer Spaniel is a breed which needs to get good amounts of exercise. If they are allowed to run off the leash, they can easily exercise themselves. Despite this, owners will want to make sure this is only done in a secure area. The Welsh Springer Spaniel can live inside the home as long it is given a good amount of exercise. Owners will want to make sure they give these dogs extended walks. If they are placed in a medium sized yard, they can get all the exercise they need. Special Grooming NeedsThe Welsh Springer Spaniel has an elaborate coat which can easily be care for. Owners will want to use a strong brush, and they will need to use caution when this dog begins to shed. The hair between their toes should be cut, and their ears should be cleaned as well. This breed should only be bathed when it is necessary, and they shed standard amounts of fur.
