Tibetan Spaniel Pictures and Information

Tibetan Spaniel Description

At first glance, the Tibetan Spaniel is a dog that closely resembles the Pekingese. However, it has a longer face, and there is no skin near the eyes. This breed has a length which is a bit longer than its height. The crown of the head should be circular, and the muzzle should have a moderate length. The eyes should be shaped like an oval, and they must have a dark brown color. The Tibetan Spaniel should have teeth which forms an undershot bite. The tail should curl over the back, and the coat should be sleek and soft. There are a number of coat colors that are acceptable with this breed, and some of them are black, white, tan, fawn, cream, and gold. The feet of these dogs could be likened to rabbits.

As the name suggests, this breed originated in Tibet. Many experts believe that it is related to the Pekingese, and it may also be mixed with the Japanese Spaniel as well. These dogs are extremely popular in Tibet.

Temperament

The Tibetan Spaniel is a dog which is cheerful and loyal. While they are loving to those that care for them, they can also be protective. They are suspicious of people they are not familiar with. These dogs are quick to bark at strange people or animals. The can be stubborn and independent, but they make excellent companions, and are the ideal family dogs. While they can get along with other dogs, owners may find them hard to train. It is important for owners to use patience when training this breed.

Health Problems

The only health problem that is common with the Tibetan Spaniel is respiratory problems. Other than this, they are a healthy breed, and will have a maximum life expectancy of 15 years.

Exercise

Owners will only need to give these dogs medium levels of exercise. Taking them on a long walk will generally give them all the exercise they need. Owners may also let them run free in an enclosed area. These dogs are excellent for those who live in apartments, and do not need to have their own yards. However, owners will want to make sure they get the exercise they need.

Special Grooming Needs

The coat of the Tibetan Spaniel may develop clumps throughout the year. Because of this, it is important for owners to make sure the coat is brushed consistently. These dogs will shed a standard amount of fur.
