Tenterfield Terrier Pictures and InformationTenterfield Terrier DescriptionThe Tenterfield Terrier is a small to medium size dog which will usually have a docked tail. Though it originally came from England, the contemporary form of this breed was bred in Australia. The ideal Tenterfield Terrier will have a head with the shape of a wedge, and the nose should always be black or liver. These dogs will have medium sized eyes which are dark and oval in shape. The ears will have the shape of the letter “V,” and should point forward if they stand upright. These dogs have a scissors bite with powerful jaws. This breed is not very muscular, and should have smooth coats which are short. The ideal coat colors for this breed are white, black, tan, or liver. The Tenterfield Terrier was bred by mixing the Fox Terriers with the Manchester Terriers. These dogs were first bred in early 19th century. TemperamentThis breed is agile and powerful. They are cheerful, and are anxious to learn new things. They are highly intelligent, and will want to show loyalty to their masters. The Tenterfield Terrier can be strong willed, and must be trained by those that are experienced. These dogs will work hard despite their small size. These dogs respond to kind training, and will not take kindly to being yelled at or hit. These dogs work better with mature children who will not hurt them. Owners will want to make sure they are socialized so they can work with other dogs. These dogs are excellent swimmers, and can perform well as retrievers as well. Their small size gives them great amounts of speed and agility. Health ProblemsThere are no known health problems that Tenterfield Terriers suffer from. They are healthy, and will generally live longer than 13 years. ExerciseThese dogs love to run and exercise. If you don’t have a large yard, you will want to take them to a safe place which has lots of space. This breed adapts well to living indoors, and are excellent for people who own apartments. These dogs don’t need exercise consistently, but owners will want to take them out whenever they can. The Tenterfield Terrier will enjoy following you while you hike, jog, or walk. They will need to be occupied at all times, as they may become problematic if they are bored. Special Grooming NeedsThis is a breed of dogs that are easy to groom. You will want to consistently brush or comb their coats. They should only be bathed whenever it is needed.
