Smooth Fox Terrier Pictures and InformationSmall Munsterlander DescriptionThe Small Munsterlander is a dog which was bred for hunting and retrieving. It originates from Munster, Germany, and has an appearance which can be likened to setters. The Small Munsterlander is a medium sized dog that will weigh up to 60 pounds, and it should stand at a maximum height of 20 inches. While these dogs have powerful bodies, they are lean and athletic. The coat colors for these dogs should be brown and white, and the base color should be white while the patches should be brown. The coat has a soft texture, and these dogs have not yet been recognized by the American Kennel Club. However, it has been recognized by the United Kennel Club. Before guns were developed, these dogs were commonly used by falconers to hunt small animals. The Small Munsterlander would chase the prey into an area were they could be seen by the falcon, and the falcon would then fly in for the kill. The Small Munsterlander would then point the hunter in the direction of the prey. These dogs are excellent retrievers as well. TemperamentThis breed is intelligent and simple to train. However, owners will need to have patient, as this breed can be stubborn. Owners who are not good trainers may find this dog difficult to handle. These dogs have excellent scent qualities, and will be prone to following scents they find to be interesting. These dogs are extremely active and love to swim. They are loving to their owners, and will be calm when they are at home. They are highly sociable, and should not be placed in a kennel. They will behave best when they are around their families. The Small Munsterlander will behave well with other pets. Health ProblemsThe health of these dogs is not well known. It appears that they don’t develop ailments which are specific to the breed. There is little information available on their life expectancy, but the Small Munsterlander may not live longer than 13 years. ExerciseThese dogs are extremely active, and owners will want to give them large amounts of exercise. They enjoy walking, swimming, and running, and they will become problematic if they are not given the exercise they need. Owners will want to make sure they are given large amounts of space, and they are not good dogs for people who live in apartments. Special Grooming NeedsOwners will want to brush or comb the coats consistently. Little is known about the shedding patterns of this breed, and they should only be bathed when it is necessary.
