This breed may have a maximum life expectancy of 15 to 16 years. ExerciseThe Shikoku is a hardy breed that was bred to move through mountains and other difficult terrain. They have large amounts of agility, and owners will want to give them excessive amounts of exercise. While these dogs are great for people who are physically active, they are not good for people who are not physically active. While these dogs can live indoors, owners will want to make sure they are given a sufficient amount of exercise. Special Grooming NeedsThe Shikoku has a coat that is simple to groom. Owners will simply want to use a firm brush or comb on a consistent basis, and the ears should be monitored for ticks or other things that can cause them to become infected. These dogs should only be given a bath when they need it, and there shedding patterns are not known.
