The tail of this breed should always be held in a curve. The head should be wide, and while the puppies are born with a large number of wrinkles, most of them are gone by the time they become mature. ExerciseThese dogs need extensive amounts of exercise. Owners will want to take them for extended walks, and they should be allowed to run free in a safe area. However, it is important for owners to make sure these dogs are not released around strange dogs, as they will have a tendency to get in fights with them. These dogs can live in apartments if they are given enough exercise, and they do not need to have a yard. Special Grooming NeedsOwners will want to brush the coat of the Shar Pei on a consistent basis. However, the coat should never be cut, as these dogs do not have an undercoat. Unlike most dogs, the Shar Pei should be given a bath each week, and this will allow the dead fur to be removed. These dogs are not hypoallergenic, and some people may be allergic to them.
