Pont-Audemer Spaniel Description

The Pont-Audemer Spaniel is a French dog breed that is rare outside of France. It has traditionally been used as a gundog. It may also be known as the Epagneul Pont-Audemer. The Pont-Audemer Spaniel is a moderate sized dog that should weigh no more than 60 pounds. It should stand at a maximum height of 23 inches. The texture of the coat should be wavy and long, but the area around the face should be smooth compared to the rest of the body. The acceptable coat colors for this breed are brown, white, or liver. Though these dogs are rare outside of France, they are still recognized by the FCI.

It is believed that these dogs were first bred in the 19th century in the Pont-Audemer area of France. The Poodle and older spaniel breeds may comprise its genetic make up. The breed nearly became extinct after the Second World War.
