Olde English Bulldogge Description

Olde English Bulldogges are one of the newest breeds to be created. It is part English Bulldog, Pit Bull, Bullmastiff, and American Bulldog. The goal of developing the Olde English Bulldogge was to create a breed that had the appearance of older bulldog breeds with the temperament of contemporary English Bulldogs. It was also important for this new breed to be healthier than the modern English Bulldogs. These dogs have bodies which are well proportioned. Olde English Bulldogges should have a muscular look, and their heads will typically feature a square shape. They should also have large jaws. This breed for first showcased in the early 1970s.

As of this time, this breed is quite rare. They were bred by David Leavitt, and have solved many of the health problems that are commonly seen in contemporary English Bulldogs. Olde English Bulldogges breath better,  and breeders are trying to avoid breeding dogs which have hip problems. This new breed of dog is much better at assisting their masters than other Bulldogs. However, it isn’t perfect, and still has a few health problems.

Temperament

While Olde English Bulldogges may be submissive, they can be vicious to those that threaten them. At the same time, it is loving and affectionate to its owner. These dogs are noted for being fearless, and will protect their families. It is not uncommon for these dogs to attack strangers. They enjoy biting on objects and should be given toys which will allow them to do this. Certain toys are not safe for this breed, and an example of this would be rubber. The reason for this is because the strong jaws of this breed can break through the rubber, and they will become sick if they eat it. These dogs also will drool profusely.

Health Problems

The disease which has been consistently seen with this breed is bloat. Bloat is an ailment which is known to kill many Olde English Bulldogges. It is caused by dogs eating too much food in a single meal. They may also get hip dysplasia. The life span of these dogs is about 11 years.

Exercise

Generally, Olde English Bulldogges will only need medium levels of exercise. This is enough for them to maintain their muscular frame. They are slow moving dogs, and should not be pushed into performing extreme exercises.

Special Grooming Needs

Olde English Bulldogges have coats which need very little maintenance. They will shed standard amounts of fur.
