Native American Indian Dog Pictures and Information

Native American Indian Dog Description

The Native American Indian Dog may have two different sizes and coat styles. The ideal dog will be black or silver in color, while others may have a broken pattern. Their coats are resistant to both wind and water, and their ears will generally stand upright. At first glance, this breed may resemble a Alaskan Husky. Their heads are angular in shape, and will taper into the muzzle. The eyes are shaped like almonds and may have a brown or amber color. As the name implies, the Native American Indian Dog was bred by Native Americans and was used to drag travois and other items. In addition to this, these dogs were also used to hunt game, and they would kill rabbits, quail, or even bears.

Country of Origin

United States

Temperament

This breed has extreme levels of intelligence. They can be trained easily, and work hard to please their masters. While they may be shy when encountering someone they are not familiar with, they will fight bravely to protect their owners. They are good with both children and other dogs, and make good pets overall. They are one of the most versatile dogs in the world, and can perform a number of different tasks. These dogs perform poorly when it comes to housbreaking. The Native American Indian Dog is a very rare breed, and is not well known even in the United States.

Health Problems

There are no known health problems which are specific to these dogs. In fact, these dogs have some of the longest life spans seen of any dog breed in the world. The Native American Indian Dog has been known to live for a maximum of 19 years, which is a remarkable amount of time for dogs. However, the average life expectancy is about 14 years.

Exercise

These dogs only require medium levels of exercise. Taking them for long walks on a regular basis is usually all that is needed. However, each dog will have its own level of endurance and fitness, and owners will want to adapt to what it needs. They don’t need large amounts of room in order to be active. While some of these dogs will require large amounts of exercise, others will not.

Special Grooming Needs

The coats of these dogs are not a problem for people who suffer from allergies, and the coat is easy to maintain. Despite this, owners will want to brush the coat when the dog begins shedding.
