It features powerful jaws, and it has teeth which are in the form of a scissors bite. The nose should always be black in color while it is young, but may become pink or brown as it gets older. Even though it is a large dog, the Maremma Sheepdog has an excellent combination of endurance and power. Health ProblemsThere are no health problems which are specific to this breed. These dogs can live up to 13 years. ExerciseThis dog is too large to be kept in apartments. Owners will want to have a sizeable yard or space the dog can move around in. It may be possible to keep them inside if you have plenty of space, but it will then be your responsibility to exercise them. At the same time, these dogs have a thick coat which allows them to live outside all seasons of the year. During hot weather, you will want to make sure your Maremma Sheepdog has a lot of shade and water, as it does not function well in hot climates. Special Grooming NeedsThe Maremma Sheepdog has an extensive coat which requires lots of care. The coat should be combed and brushed on a regular basis to rid it of dead hair. These dogs shed excessive amounts of fur.
