Lapinporokoira Description

The Lapinporokoira is a medium sized dog that features a double coat. It originates in Finland, and was first bred there in the 16th century. It has traditionally been used as a working dog, and a standard was made for it during the 1960s. The Lapinporokoira has a loose tail which is curled, and it will typically be held next to the thigh. The ideal dog will be no taller than 22 inches, and it should weigh no more than 66 pounds. The Lapinporokoira is also known as the Lapland Reindeer Dog.  Outside of Finland, it is not very well known. It is a member of the Finnish Kennel Club.

The Lapinporokoira features a dense coat which allows it to thrive in snowy environments. The tail is  somewhat bushy, and the coat is smooth and shiny. The ideal Lapinporokoira will have a coat which is either black or brown with a few patches of white. While most of the body will be either black or brown, there should always be patches of white on the chest and legs. They also feature triangular shaped ears which pount forward.
