They weigh between 38 and 44 pounds and stand between 18 and 22 inches in height. They are a strong breed. They have very muscular and athletic builds. They have short and sleek coats. Their coats are most commonly found to be black with tan marking in color. The breed often has small white spots on their heads. Their ears lie flat and are medium in length. Their noses and nails are solid black. Hellenikos Ichnilatis originated in Greece. They are a breed with ancient roots dating back to more than a thousand years. This breed can still be found often in Southern Greece. Also known AsGreek Harehound TemperamentHellenikos Ichnilatis is a very brave and intelligent breed. They are very keen hunters but are never vicious. They are playful, affectionate, and friendly. They are a very protective and courageous breed though they will not attacked unless provoked. They are a good natured breed but they can be independent and strong willed. This makes obedience training difficult in some cases. This breed is best suited as a hunting or farm dog more so than a family pet. It is best when used for both specific tasks and companionship. Health ProblemsThe Hellenikos Ichnilatis is a breed with an outstanding health record. There are no known diseases or disorders that this breed is prone to. ExerciseHellenikos Ichnilatis require a good deal of exercise. They are best kept in large back yards where they can determine when they want to play and how often. They need quite a bit of freedom. They are never to be kept in an apartment. They are happiest when they have a task to complete. If dogs of this breed do not get enough exercise they will become destructive. Often times it is best to employ a dog walker if you do not have the time to walk the dog yourself. Special Grooming NeedsHellenikos Ichnilatis do not require a lot of grooming. Brushing their coats occasionally with a firm bristled brush will help keep their coats in peek condition. They should be bathed only when necessary. This breed sheds an average amount. Their coats are prone to picking up chiggers and burrs. When the animal has been outside in a wooded area be sure to check for burrs and ticks upon returning home. A burr can become embedded in the foot pads and become very painful or even infected.
