Finnish Hound Pictures and InformationFinnish Hound Description
The Finnish Hound has become Finland’s most popular native working breed. The breed is very popular in Sweden and France. They are virtually unknown in all other parts of the world, but due to exposure through international dog shows and the Internet, they are starting to gain a following from dog lovers everywhere. Also Known AsFinsk Stovare TemperamentFinnish Hounds are a very friendly and calm breed. They are usually only energetic when they are hunting and they are never aggressive. They are great for households with children and get along well with other canines. They are not recommended for households with non-canine pets since they were bred for hunting. The Finnish Hound is also a smart breed, so training them for complex tasks, such as hunting, is never a problem. They do like to be rewarded for their hard work, so a kind word or treat from their master will make this breed extremely happy. Health ProblemsThere are no known health problems that affect the Finnish Hound breed directly. They are a strong, hunting breed, and breeders must put their dogs through extensive testing before they are given the go ahead for breeding. ExerciseThe Finnish Hound requires a moderate amount of exercise. They are happiest and most energetic while they are hunting. Other times they can be relatively inactive. They are not well suited for apartment living. They enjoy being outdoors as much as possible. They need plenty of time to run, preferably off the leash in a safe area. Large, fenced in yards or open farm areas are the best places for a Finnish Hound to exercise. Special Grooming NeedsFinnish Hounds require little grooming. Brushing with a firm bristled brush should be done on occasion. Bathing is only to be done when necessary. This breed sheds an average amount. Their nails do tend to grow fast and should be trimmed often.
