English Foxhound Pictures and InformationEnglish Foxhound Description
The English Foxhound was developed by a mixing of various hounds, and were subsequently carefully bred with the Greyhound, the Bulldog, and the Fox Terrier to help with agility, speed, and temperament. This breed is used to hunt and chase foxes and other smaller prey animals. Today they are still used for fox hunting, tracking, as watchdogs, and are a favorite in agility competitions. Also Known AsFoxhound TemperamentThe English Foxhound has a very pleasant temperament. They are far less needy than other hound breeds tend to be and they are very active and playful. They are obedient and always aim to please their owners. They can be a bit slow to learn at times, so training these dogs usually takes patience. They are friendly with all people and especially with children. An English Foxhound loves to play with other dogs and is never aggressive. The breed has even been known to play with cats and other small animals. It is this laid back and playful temperament that makes them a great choice for families that have younger children. Health ProblemsThe English Foxhound is known to be the healthiest of all of the hound breeds, but still requires check ups with the vet every year to keep them healthy. ExerciseEnglish Foxhounds are a very active breed and thus require a great deal of exercise. They are never recommended for apartment living. They need large areas to run free and play with other dogs. Often backyards prove to not be large enough to suit them. They do best on large farm areas. They need extensive running to be happy. Special Grooming NeedsThe short, hard coat is easy to care for. Comb and brush with a firm bristled brush, and shampoo only when necessary. This breed is an average shedder.
