These dogs are not quick to obey commands that are given to them by their owners. Health ProblemsHip dysplasia is a problem that is commonly seen with these dogs. In addition to this, they may also suffer from eye problems as well. Despite these conditions, the Chow Chow is a breed which is generally healthy. The have a maximum life expectancy of about 15 years. ExerciseChow Chows can become lazy if they are not given sufficient amounts of exercise. Owners will want to take them on walks, and they should be allowed to run free in a safe area. These dogs can function well in apartments, and if owners want to put them outside, a small yard is good enough. They don’t tolerate heat very well, so owners will want to make sure they’re protected in warm weather. Special Grooming NeedsThe Chow Chow has an extensive coat that will need to be consistently brushed. They will shed large amounts of fur, and owners will need to use more care during this time.
