Bracco Italiano Description

The Bracco Italiano is a muscular dog that is calm and peaceful. These dogs have impressive heads, and the length of the body should equal or a bit longer than the height. The muzzle should have a length which is half of the head. The cheeks of these dogs should be lean, and the nose should be large with prominent nostrils. The nose should either be red, brown, or pink in color, and is dependent on the coat of the dog. The Bracco Italiano does not have a well defined chin. The upper lips should be highly developed, and they should slightly cover the lower jaw. The eyes should be a dark brown color, and the teeth may have a scissors bite.

The Bracco Italiano is one of the oldest dog breeds in the world. While it is recognized in the United States, it is not well known outside of Italy.

The Bracco Italiano is one of the two gundog breeds which originate in Italy. This breed has existed for thousands of years, and is gentle and affectionate. This breed enjoys being around children, and will make great pets for the family. While they can be calm, they have powerful barks and are suspicious of strangers. The Bracco Italiano has large amounts of endurance, and is an excellent swimmer.

Health Problems

While the Bracco Italiano is a healthy breed, a number of them have died when Domitor was used after they were placed under anestesia. Studies are currently being conducted to find out why this anesthetic is so dangerous to this breed. Not much is known about the life expectancy of these dogs, but it may not live longer than 14 years.

Exercise

The Bracco Italiano is a gundog that enjoys large amounts of exercise. They are extremely active, and love to swim. Owners will want to make sure they are given a large yard to move around in, and a pool may be added as well. These dogs are not good for people who live in apartments. They are active dogs which need large amounts of space.

Special Grooming Needs

The Bracco Italiano has a coat that owners will want to brush or comb on a consistent basis. Not much is known about the shedding patterns of this breed, and they should only be bathed when it is necessary.
