Basset Hound Pictures and InformationBasset Hound Description
The Basset Hound will have coat that is short and glossy. There are no specific colors which are mandatory for the coat, but it will generally be white or brown. TemperamentThe Basset Hound is a loving breed that is generous and loyal to those that care for it. They are the perfect dog for a family. The Basset Hound should always have a demeanor that is peaceful. These dogs should not be aggressive. At the same time, they should not be too timid. They are great with children, and though they will not bite, they can be strong willed. These dogs love performing tricks, but they can be hard to housebreak. Owners who train them will need to be patient. Health ProblemsThe Basset Hound should never be overfed. These dogs gain weight easily, and this weight will be put large amounts of strain on their spine and legs. This could eventually lead to paralysis. Some other disorders which are common to this breed include bloat, and owners will not want to feed them too much. The Basset Hound has a maximum life expectancy of 12 years. ExerciseThe Basset Hound must be exercised regularly if owners wish to keep it healthy. However, it should not be allowed to jump around too much, as its weight can place large amounts of stress on the legs. While the Basset Hound can live in an apartment, they may become inactive, and it is up to the owner to make sure they get the exercise they need. They can also function well in a small to medium sized yard. Special Grooming NeedsThe Basset Hound has a short, smooth coat that can easily be maintained. Owners will want to use a brush or comb when the dog needs it, and the ears should be cleaned weekly. The toenails will need to be cut as well. The Basset Hound will shed fur continuously.
