Australian Silky Terrier Pictures and InformationAustralian Silky Terrier Description
The acceptable coat colors for this breed are brown or fawn. The fur on their faces gives them a distinctive appearance. Experts believe that these dogs were first bred near the end of the 19th century. However, this breed was not officially recognized until 1959. Also Known AsSilky Terrier TemperamentThe Australian Silky Terrier will have the temperament that is seen in many Terrier breeds. It should be active, alert, and quick. While these dogs will get along with children, they can become aggressive with other dogs. They will not even back down from dogs which are much larger than them. Owners will want to be careful when leaving pets around them that are not canines, as these dogs may have the instinct to hunt and kill them. However, the Australian Silky Terrier is loving and loyal to those that care for it. While it makes a good watchdog, its size does not allow it to be effectively used as a guard dog. Health ProblemsThere are no known health problems which are specific to this breed. Any health problems that it develops may be seen in other Terriers. It has a life expectancy of approximately 15 years. ExerciseDue to their size, these dogs can exercise themselves without the assistance of their owners. However, they won’t be upset if you decide to take them on an extended walk. However, owners will want to make sure these dogs are not unleashed in public, as they can easily get into fights with other dogs they encounter. Because of their size, the Australian Silky Terrier is a great dog for those that live in apartments. It is not necessary for them to have a yard. Special Grooming NeedsAs these dogs have long coats, owners will need to give them large amounts of care. The Australian Silky Terrier does not shed an extensive amount of fur, and owners will want to make sure the coat is brushed or combed on a consistent basis. They should only be bathed when it is necessary.
